The day details -
I was watching the 2 fields for a couple of days after work see small groups of pigeons flying from the wood nearby too the fields decided to go shooting in the afternoon. It was my first time using a rotary decoy set it up bout 3o yards from where I was hiding. It took about 15 mins for the first pigeon to come in. It was Hard to see the pigeons coming as they were very low and fast. I shot for 3 hours then packed up the only mistake I made was not bringing my dog (vary hard trying too find pigeons in 3 foot off wheat) will be shooting their again in a couple of days will let you know how I get on.

The kale after all the rain in the southwest was about 4 inches high but the good news was the field was thick and covered with young fresh chickwed they came in quite unconcerned that I was there as this is the first time this year I have shot the field (hopefully more to come!!), by about 2pm the rain started again and so did the birds arriving in small groups departing in even smaller groups. The end of the day came at 4 pm with 24 pigeon in the bag and homeward bound.

The total number of pigeons shot = 5 woodies, 1 jackdaw, 1 feral pigeon
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - 07/04/02
The Crop type - Drilled Barley
The day details -This was my first ever decoying trip. I got a phonecall on saturday night, "get up to the top field, it's been drilled with barley and the woodies are on it". My shooting companion was going in the morning, and it was decided that I should go in the afternoon. I arrived there about 2pm and set up my measly decoy pattern, 2 full bodied woodie deeks and a full bodied crow. It was enough. Plenty of woodies were flying around the field, and started drifting towards my decoy pattern. The first bird to come in was the feral, dropped him with my first shot, but he landed on his back, so I left the hide to set him up as a deek. Just as I was reaching the entrance to my hide, a woodie came screaming in from the left, so I reloaded and dropped him as well. I missed a few shots after this, and then there was a lull of about 20-30 minutes with no action, then the woodies started drifting in in ones and twos, and I managed to shoot a few more. the day was rounded off by a left and right of sorts. A jackdaw for anyone who's interested, I was using a Rizzini 12 bore over and under, choked 1/4 and 3/4, with Lyalvale Pigeon Special 30grm 6's and Gamebore SuperGame 32grm 6's.
