The Crop type - barley stubble field surrounded by large wood
The day details - set up early 0630hrs in a barley stubble field near Newton Stewart in Dumfries. Early on quite quiet, set decoys in 2 groups and both guns were in 1 hide (cosy with all the gear and two fat black labs). Mark setup up his new toy "a pigeon magnet" bought from Sporting Gun.... Steady for 2-3 hours (20 odd in the bag). Birds started coming in in 5 & 6's so binned magnet and went back to conventional decoy set-up... 2x labs worked their tails off for about two and a half hours when we shot over 80 pigeons, the two 3 shot auto's we were using were glowing in fact mine (franchi)jammed with a mis-fire for the first time ever (mirage cartridge surprisingly)... Went quiet about 1200hrs for 2 hours (Lunch was a treat (2 cans of cold beer each and some well earned mutton pies)... Back to using the magnet (Best buy Mark has ever made by far...Had enough about 1645hrs time to pack up and go home...did the count patted each other on the back (although in truth Mark outshot me all day)...Headed home...

The total number of pigeons shot = 91 (ninety one)
Gender - male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date - 28/6/2002
The Crop type - Peas
The day details - I am from Hull and in a local pigeon club which has a vast acreage. We have not seen many pigeons for a long time now even thougth I do regualary visit our land religiously, it is true to say pigeons are very scarce at the moment. On this particualar day I bumped into a farmer whos land is not in the club but closely borders it and he said he would be very grateful if I would have a go at the large number of pigeons that are on a pea field that is about to be vined anytime now,so of course I went down there expecting to see half a dozen instead I had the best day of my life so far, there was 4 different flight lines and I didnt even have to put a hide up,I just got behind a telegrapth pole and kept circuling it according to which line the pigeon was using.I started at about 1.30pm and ran out of cartridges at about 6.00pm.I shot like a blind vicar but still managed to pick 91.They just kept coming and coming without a let up.This day will be very hard to repeat in this area.

Pigeon Shooters name - PAUL.G
Part of UK bag was shot - North of England
The total number of pigeons shot = 44
Gender - male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date - MARCH 2002
The Crop type - SPRING DRILLED BEANS
The day details - After having reasonable bags on rape the local pigeon population decided to move. I searched around and found that they had found the overspilling on the spring drilled beans at the other side of the local farm. The next morning at 11am I set my hide up near the left hand top corner of the field underneath a elder tree with the wind and sun on my back, to my left there was pilons and conifers which is a good flight line, (I noticed this the day before.) I put out my 12 shell decoys and headed back to the hide and no sooner had two shells been chambered that two pigeons had folded and droped from 100ft and came straight into the decoys. A nice right and left to start the day. They came in steadily for a hour and a half but I missed more than I shot. It dropped of for a hour or so I put out the birds I shot to build up the pattern, For the next two hours they came in nicely and I shot much better and ended up with a nice bag for the day

Pigeon Shooters name - Tom and Jack
Part of UK bag was shot - North of England
The total number of pigeons shot = 3 pigeons and 3 rabbits
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - 12/07/02
The Crop type - Cut field with patches of clover
The day details - It was a sunny morning when we left for a quick recce. The birds were all feeding in the middle of the field that we planned to shoot. After a quick walk around with the 410 shot gun and two rabbits later we headed for home , to collect the nets gun and decoys. By the time we were out it was very hot and there were very few birds about. We set up at one side of the field that had previously been good. 2 hours later and 1 pigeon that had landed without being noticed we decided we would go to the other side of the field were there was more shade and were we thought the pigeons may have been. In the edge of the wood we put up the hide and put out the decoys, + a good number of crow decoys and got ready. As sods law dictates the birds all went to our old location but one that crossed and turned right into our decoys and was hit at exactly the same time with 32grams of my 6 and a halves and 23 grams of size 5s from Jacks 20 bore. The next bird came in a pair and set its wings as the other one spooked. This one folded and landed in a thick holly bush.(mm that was interesting getting). The day slowed down from that point a rabbit was taken as it foolishly came to about 20yards of our hide. Just before we packed up I spotted a pigeon coming in about 10 feet of the ground from the other side of the field which rose up allowing a good shot which i missed and so did jack yet. Luckily it doubled back and allowed another shot, which sent it tumbling to the ground. Not a very big bag by any standards yet I was happy with it.

Pigeon Shooters name - Paul Bond
Part of UK bag was shot - North of England
The total number of pigeons shot = 73 pigeons 1 jackdaw
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - 12/04/02
The Crop type - Spring Barley
The day details - I started shooting at 1pm there were not many birds moving so set up on known flightline with 12 shells and 1 deadbird on floater within 10 mins birds started to move. The wind was quite strong so kept the birds on the move soon as I shot 2 birds set my pinewood advantage up immedate results, the birds just kept piling in to the decoys from all angles and just kept coming. I think without the advantage I would of only shot a fraction of the birds- a truley great bit of kit!

Pigeon Shooters name - John
Part of UK bag was shot - South Scotland
The total number of pigeons shot = 18
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - February
The Crop type - Roost Shooting and Rape
The day details - I enjoyed some sporting roost shooting with the strong winds of late, several 12 plus bags. There are some large flocks around the South Durham area, but proving difficult to decoy to date. I reckon things will change in march because there will be lots of spring drilling to go at. I also have been staying in the woods after the pigeon flighting time and have shot dozens of carrions in this area, there appears to have been an explosion of corvids, and find as long as you are well hidden and use dead crows as deeks they are easy to decoy. For me number 5 shot is doing the biz.

Pigeon Shooters name - Aiden
Part of UK bag was shot - South Scotland
The total number of pigeons shot = 21
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - February
The Crop type - Roost Shooting
The day details - I had about 40 shots, the pigeons came in well, they were coming in from a rape field next to the wood and then later they came in to roost.

Pigeon Shooters name - Howard Murphy
Part of UK bag was shot - North of England
The total number of pigeons shot = 19
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 bore
Bag Date - 02/02/02
The Crop type - sprouts
The day details - Actually roost shooting, there were sprouts in most of birds. I took along a friend's son for the experience. I shot 18 my accomplice shot 1, he was the proudest lad in the area -who needs numbers with a smile like he had!

My opinion I can still remember the 1st woodpigeon that I shot, it was also doing roost shooting, I managed to get 3 that night. I can remember I was chuffed to bits and I swear it was the most tasty pigeon I have ever eaten to this day!
