The Midlands
Pigeon Shooters name - Matt Boswell
Part of UK bag was shot - The Midlands
The total number of pigeons shot = 6 (plus 2 crows and a rabbit)
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 gauge
Bag Date - 30/12/01
The Crop type - Snow! (a flightline)
The day details - I arrived at the farm at 11:30am. The previous night had seen around 3 inchs of snow fall, which meant decoying was out of the question. Instead i opted for a length of camo netting drapped over some thining trees in the wood which lies in the middle of a flight line. The first 2 pigeons came in together within the first 30 mins followed instantly by another 2. Unfortunatly due to it being so cold my reloading was not up to speed. The last 4 came in the latter part of the day between 2:30pm and 3:30pm. On picking up my birds I headed back to the car, and had the added bonus of taking out two high flying crows and a rabbit which was braving the snow. All in all a cold but pleasant day with a nice mixed bag.
My opinion Very very tricky, the only times I have had success in snow is when I decoy brassicas (sprouts) it is out of reach of the snow and the pigeons love it. However you proved that you can lie on a flightline too. Snow and in particular this time of the year with pigeons it is very hit and miss. Congratulations on the left and right which you got on the first two pigeons!

Part of UK bag was shot - The Midlands
The total number of pigeons shot = 52
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 gauge
Bag Date - 23/12/01
The Crop type - Winter Rape
The day details - We set up at 9 o clock. We placed 20 shell decoys out in the field, we just got in the hide and they started flighting to the field in flocks of 50 or more. The pigeons stoped flighting from midday, then in the late evening they starting coming from the wood for there last meal of the day. We have had a good few bags in the last few weeks and hoping for more to come.
My opinion It is always the way at this time of year, the pigeons start to form large flocks when they fly around. I was once told if a large flock comes rather than risk spooking them while shooting maybe 2 if instead you wave a white handkerchief then they will disperse and come back later in the day, since there were two of you though I suppose double the firepower gives you more reason to fire at flocks. It's good to see some people are shooting in the Midlands!
