East Anglia

Pigeon Shooters name - Tom Strowlger
Part of UK bag was shot - East Anglia
The total number of pigeons shot = 78
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date - 20th December
The Crop type - Maze
The day details - We shot 78 birds on a very windy day, the bag was made up of some very well feed pigeons and the maze had attracted much attention before the shoot. We are now in Feb and are going again very soon to try the maze game cover that we beat back for this months shooting. We have seen 3000 to 4000 birds on it this week (8th Feb) and will report back on the success of the weekend shoot.

My opinion Well done, I am a bit under the weather at the moment and will give a fuller opinion soon

Pigeon Shooters name - Larry and Kev
Part of UK bag was shot - East Anglia
The total number of pigeons shot = 98
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date - 28th and 29th December
The Crop type - Winter Rape
The day details - We arrived at the field before light armed with a Magnet, a Pecker {which my good lady had bought me for Christmas} and 10 dead birds. The wind was gusting 50 to 70 mph and as these were new fields to us we looked for the pigeon damage and tried to put the wind to our backs for comfort. Big Mistake!!! The pigeons were flighing a very tight line on the next field. After a few birds and a cup of coffee {or two} we braved the wind and moved. We sat under the flightline and setup with our feet on the hide to stop it disappearing behind us. We had to take the Magnet in as it was going backwards in the wind.Anyway we had a good few shoots and ended up with about 50 birds and a severe case of windburn. The next day the wind had dropped and we setup in the same place as the day before. We were pleased with the Decoy pattern and Kev built probably the best hide I'd ever seen. The pigeons started coming almost straight away and the pattern was working like a dream {I don't get it right most of the time}. We had a dozen pigeons in 20 minutes. What a day this was going to be! WRONG!! Then came the rain. We sat waiting it out, us in the hide, the pigeons in the trees. When the rain stopped we had a few shots, THEN CAME THE SNOW!! The only thing we could do was drink coffee and laugh. Once the snow had stopped I left Kev in the hide and drove to some near fields and put a few shots up to get the pigeons on the move {and the heater works in the truck}. We had odd shots up until about 2 o'clock when we decided to call it a day. As it was we ended up with 48 so all in all it was a good day. The sun had come out and sure enough as we were driving home so had the pigeons, about 300 feeding on another field of rape we had shot the week before. We had a good 2 days, learnt a bit, drunk plenty of coffee and had al ot of laughs.
Can't wait for next week!!!!!

My opinion Ever thought of a career as a writer? That is one nice report!! Thanks I am sure the detail will help others and I certainly had a lot of fun reading it! You seem to have managed to get a decent bag on some very testing conditions. I have never shot in wind that strong and to see the magnet going backwards must have been some sight, I am sure if you had been using shell decoys they would have just taken off! I think I will add to the tips section to bring a thermos flask of something hot I am sure if you had no coffee you might have packed it in. Thanks for the picture too.

Pigeon Shooters name - Mal Young
Part of UK bag was shot - East Anglia
The total number of pigeons shot = 78
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date -01/09/01
The Crop type - Set aside
The day details -A set aside field, which had a great flight line it is located next to a busy airport.which tends to keep the pigeons on the move from surrounding fields. I used a magnet and no other decoys.i also find that a gunsock camo which covers the barrels of my gun has improved my bags -as the bird get no reflection from my gun.at all also a face net, and light net gloves to cover the white of my hands. I have only been shooting two years, but shoot clays at least twice a week -I found that shooting skeet improved my reactions for pigeon shooting and i have almost always clean kills on all my quarry.

My opinion Don't think this guy needs my humble opinion, he seems to have it cracked!, but well done setting up under such an active flightline.

Pigeon Shooters name - Pete Addison
Part of UK bag was shot - East Anglia
The total number of pigeons shot = 47
Gender - Male
The gun you used - 12 Bore
Bag Date - 20/07/01
The Crop type - Swathed Rape
The day details - Some rape had been swathed early. Then the wet weather halted harvesting this allowed pigeons to get a strong feed on it. I used a pigeon magnet and one bouncer - birds were moving on three flight lines. Enough birds were drawn to the magnet to make it an enjoyable day. The weather was dry and bright with a stiff breeze. My homepage is: www.chessies.doglovers.co.uk

My opinion Glad to see people are still getting out during the F&M crisis well done... so close to the half century! Aah well maybe next time
